So I went out to take another look at the sedum "Autumn Joy",
then I saw this dried up thing on the clearance shelf.
Paniculata
To my delight, it was a Hydrangea Paniculata 'Bombshell'.
I mean, I wasn't delighted with its condition (or the name for that matter),
but it was a good price for a good size.
Hydrangea Paniculata blooms on new wood so I wasn't too concerned
after I saw the wood looked still healthy despite the pathetic appearance.
(yes, I did the scratch test)

I am so excited to tryout this relatively new compact cultivar and
I do hope it'll come back strong next spring.
I also hope that I will be able to take better photographs by then.
'Autumn Joy' brought me even more 'joy' after all.

Welcome back!
garden log : It will be in 40's tonight, not good for the tomatoes
high mountains have received snow already
Chiko
Sou
My favorite thing about fall . . . is rescuing plants at rock-bottom prices from unlikely "nurseries" (like... hardware stores and the grocery). Excellent find! (Last fall I nabbed a small and very fried Japanese Maple for $7.00 at my local Lowe's store. This year it is thriving!)
ReplyDeleteHi Kym♪
ReplyDeleteWow, that was a steal price for a Japanese Maple!
We have a hard time with them because of our harsh sun and wind. You have to have a very protected site to be able to grow them well here. I envy you!
Nice pictures with the sedums.
ReplyDeleteI love "Autumn Joy" and I used to have 3 of them. But they died and I don't know why...:(
Good morning Everlasting♪
ReplyDeleteI tend to look at plants closer and from different angles when I photograph them and I think it helps me to appreciate them even more.
Thank you for your complement.
Sorry about your 'Autumn Joy'-I wish I could send you a cutting or two. :o(
