aftermath

We had a full house for a week -six adults, two children, and three dogs.
Even the no-name roses I placed in the guest bedroom look a little worn-out.

I think I need some gardening time before cleaning the house.
Who is in bloom?
Whose bloom did I miss?

I've missed you all!

A new Birkenstock gardening clog.
I'm all set for another ten years!

On another note, we had a hail storm here on Saturday.
They were small this time, and no damage to speak of. Sigh...

In any case, I was glad that this large-leaved hosta was still under the porch.

Hosta ' Sagae'

Interesting idiom /

Raining cats and dogs :  〔

It was raining cats and dogs before started to hail.

The potager is becoming more active as the day gets warmer.
Lettuces are growing nicely, and strawberries are getting some color.
Rhubarb is humongous as usual, and making a delicious sauce as usual.
And, can you spot "the thing" behind the chives.

You probably guessed it.
Good ol' Wall-O-Water.
The tomatoes went in today.

The main border today.
An unusually cloudy day for Colorado; a gentle day for the garden,

My son brought home a couple souvenirs from Mexico.
A sea urchin shell and a grating plate.

Spirea vanhouttei   Bridal Veil Spirea in front

Two types of Veronicas in bloom

Three types of Pestemons in bloom

I pulled the over grown yarrow all-day.
I was binging to think it maybe connected to the yarrows growing in Japan.
It's going to be a tug of war with vinca tomorrow.
If you spot your vinca moving, please think of me pulling the other end.

The photos are not related to what I'm talking about.
In May, the front is "in bloom".

Good night.

secret admirer

Polygonatum   Variegated Solomon's Seal

If someone asked you "What's your favorite plant?", you would probably say " I can't pick one!".
But, really... what would come to your mind first?

I my mind, it's always this Varigated Solomon's Seal.
It is still here despite the unfavorable conditions.

 Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola'

Last year's newcomer, Japanese forest grass survived last winter and came up nicely nearby.
The pine needle mulch is my attempt to make the soil more acidic.

I'd really like to make a Japanese corner soon,
and am looking around the garden for the candidates for the special corner.

It probably will be a collection of "leaf interest". ^ ^

その他、

And, etc.

Don't mind me

I love all irises, but I'm especially partial to beardless type.
There are three Japanese words for Iris that I know of ('Ayame', 'Shobu' and 'Kakitsubata'), but I'm still not sure which one is which.

Same with maples.  I don't know which is 'Momiji' and which is 'Kaede'.

Iris lactea

It's fortunate that plants don't care things like that and still bloom their hearts out.

Anemone sylvestris & Lysimachia nummularia  'Aurea'

Up front, too, showered with so many blooms even though I was bad-mouthing this anemone a few days ago.

Penstemon rupicola x cardwellii

This is an evergreen penstemon.
Just because Ms. Lizard looked cute waring it as a hat.

Are you having fun in the garden?
