languages

Salvia pitcheri

このサルビアが咲き出すともうすぐシーズンの終わりです 淋しいな

This is an "end of the season is very close" salvia in my garden.  It makes me a little sad.

I left Japan 27 years ago.
Many things can change in 27 years. I know that I have changed a lot.
Most noticeably my Japanese language became very questionable to say the least.
Because I don't use the language on a daily bases, words don't come out like they once did.
English is a hard language for me to learn.  Nothing, I mean there is nothing in common between English and Japanese.  I know an American man who learned to speak fluent Chinese, but gave up on Japanese.  "Too hard.", he said.

One of the reasons I've started to write in two languages is to relearn Japanese and attempt to improve my English -I know that I make many mistakes, and I really appreciate your patience.

Anyway, when I was asked a question about a Japanese character translation, I wasn't sure...
Here I am asking my wonderful Japanese friends for help.

~~~
お尋ねしたい事があります、
ある人から
英語のbelieve の意味の漢字をイレズミしたいのだけれど それは「信」で良いのか?
と、聞かれました
このbelieveは神を信じる、信仰する、と言う意味でよく宗教的に使われますが、この場合そうではなくて
自分の可能性を信じる、ゴール達成を信じる、夢が叶うことを信じる、を表現したいのだそうです
さらに、この漢字を単独で使ったら変だろうか?と心配してあります
考えれば考える程 なんだか いいような、変なような・・自信がありません
何しろ刺青ですから責任重大です
他にもっとぴったりする漢字、又は熟語があるかしら・・・
日本を離れて27年、日常使わない言葉の記憶が薄れてしまいました
どうぞお知恵を拝借させてください
本当は 止めておけば~、と言いたいところですが会った事もない知人の知人、余計なお世話なのでぐっと口を噤んでいます
こんな奇妙な質問がたまに回ってきます トホホ・・
Crested Butte August Trip / camping
Crested Butte から東南方向に車で30分、Gunnison 国有林内にあるOne Mileキャンプ場に滞在しました
この地域には多数のキャンプ場があります 今回、運良く、とてもプライベートな良いサイトに恵まれました
Taylor川沿いのサイトはどうかな、と見当していましたが予約時に空きが無く、選んだサイトは川から少し離れています
それでも水音は聞き取れ、もし近かったらうるさかったかも知れません
峡谷が音をエコーするのでしょうね
We camped (glamped, tee hee..) at One Mile Campground in Gunnison National Forest, southeast of Crested Butte.
There were so many campgrounds in this area, but we thought we'd picked the best one -by chance.
Our site was backed to National Forest and there were good spaces between each sites.
I thought about reserving a site next to Taylor river but they weren't available.
But as it turned out that we could still hear the river running from our site, and it would've been very noisy if we'd stayed right next to the river.  I think the canyon echos the sound.
キャンプ場にはそれぞれホスト・キャンパーさんが任務してあります
通常、リタイヤされたご夫婦でシーズン中ずっと各キャンプ場に滞在され施設の世話をなさっています
私たちのホストは働き者で穏やかなご夫婦でした、そして石を積むのがとても上手で私たちも真似してみました   大人になったらホストのお仕事したいな…
Each campground normally has a host camper assigned, usually a retired couple who stay there for the entire season and take care of the grounds.  Our host couple were kind, hardworking, and masters of rock stacking! We gave a try at stacking rocks, too.    "I want their job when I grow up!"
三日目は息子が仕事だったのでミニ・ドライブに行ってきました
Since our son had to work on the third day, we went for a mini drive.
Crested Butte に戻って Ginger Cafe のテラスでほっぺが落ちるほど美味しいランチをいただきました
こんなにたくさんオーダーしたので半分は夕食に
二回目も美味しかったです
Went back to Crested Butte for THE BEST lunch at Ginger Cafe.
Half of it became our supper and they were still amazing.
Roasted Shishito Peppers,   Peaches & Goat Cheese on Flatbread,    Thai Fried Rice,                Warm Salad with Duck
キャンプファイヤーを見ながらアマルーラで晩酌です
Amarula for a night cap by the campfire?  Yes, please!
良い旅でした では、おやすみなさい
Good night and good Camping.
Crested Butte August Trip / wildflowers
もう、ワイルド・フラワーの満開期はとっくに過ぎてしまった八月中旬ですが
Crested Butte のメドゥーは まだまだたくさんの野の花で賑わっています
It may already be passed peak season, but even in mid-August, wildflowers still sparkle in Crested Butte.
その中でも、リンドウを見つけたときはとても嬉しい
Of all the wildflowers, spotting gentians in the wild excites me the most.
Gentiana parryi  Bottle Gentian
ロッキー山脈生物学研究所 (英語)近くのトレイルでこのジュエル・トーンのブルーを見つけました
ここはなかなか興味深い研究所です、勿論コロラドらしくのんびりした雰囲気
I found this most saturated blue by the trail we took near the information center at Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory.
The RMB Lab sounds like a wonderfully exciting place without being too stuffy -very laid back, like everything else in Colorado.
ここで素敵なワイルド・フラワーの本を購入しました
この高山性の忘れな草を見てみたい・・・でも、山頂近くまで登らないと見ることはできません
もう、無理かもしれないけれど、頭の中にある【生きているうちにやりたいことのリスト】に付け加えました
I picked up a wonderful wildflower book here.
I'd love to see the alpine forget-me-not in the wild., but you know how it is...
You'll have to climb to the summit to be able to see them.
I don't know if I'll ever be fit enough to climb to any summit, but I put it in my "bucket list" anyway.
Crested Butte @ 12,500 ' (3810m)  late July photo taking by JB
息子が3810mまで登山したときに撮った写真です
咲いていたのはたぶんモス・キャンピオンかな? これも綺麗
ここは確実に樹木限界上です
This is a picture our son took when he climbed to 12,500'.
I think these are Moss Campion Silene acaulis in bloom -beautiful nonetheless.
And as you can see, this is clearly above tree line.
一時間程石ころだらけのトレイルを登ったら(はあはあ、ぜいぜい)
Judd滝の見える崖にたどり着き、楽しかった一日の爽やかな締めくくりとなりました
また下山しなくてはならなかったけれど
足取り軽く、ちっとも苦にならなかったです
After about an hour of more hiking the rocky trail (lots more panting), we arrived at the Judd Fall.
A perfect refreshing ending to a fun-packed day.
Oh yea, we still had to hike down the hill, but I didn't mind.
Crested Butte August Trip / mushroom hunt
Crested Butte, Colorado
夏休みのツアー・シーズンもそろそろ幕を閉じる時期になり
観光地に住まう勤労学生の息子がようやく二日休みをもらう事ができました
それでは、と、夫と イヌを連れて三泊四日のキャンピング・トリップに行って来ました
 7月初旬に訪れた時とはまた違った色合いで迎えてくれたCrested Butteです
As the Summer break rush is nearing its end in the small mountain village where our working student son lives, he was finally able to take two days off.
My husband and I drove up there with our dog, planning to camp and spend some time with him.
The valley of Crested Butte welcomed us with a different color from early July.
今回の主目的はキノコ採り
不安と期待を抱えて開始した4輪駆動車でのデコボコ道登山でしたが
目的地に到着して息子の知識の豊富さに感銘し、高地のハイキングに息を切らしながらも (2740m以上)
リラックスした家族の時間を持つことができました
Our main planned activity was to go hunt mushrooms.
I started the four wheeling climb with a little anxiety and excitement, but I was impressed with his knowledge when we were at the destination.
Although I was winded with the high altitude hiking (over 9000 ft) we were able to have a relaxed time together.
これと、これと、これはOK 美味しいよ!
You can eat this, this and this.
And they are delicious!
これは食べれるけど、スポンジみたいでまずいんだ
こんなに大きくなるのに、残念!
This one is eatable, but it's spongy.
Too bad, it's huge!
初めて見るのは止めとこうね
Let's leave the unfamiliar ones alone.
これはダメ
Not this one.
これは絶対ダメ!
Definitely not this one!
ハーハー、ゼイゼイ、待ってくれ~ぃ!
Wait for me~!   pant, pant, pant
バックパックいっぱいの大収穫でしたよ
その夜、息子がソテーしてくれたキノコは歯ごたえがありとても美味でした
We collected a backpack full of mushrooms.
They were delicious with a very nice texture when our son sautéed them that night.
帰りに見つけた野性の苺とブルーベリー
We even picked wild strawberries and blueberries on the way back.
熊に出会うことなく無事下山し、ほっとする間もなく
「よし、これから滝を見に歩行登山しよう」 と、息子
We went down to the valley without any encounters with bears,
and even before I can take a breath, our son said
"Let's go hike another hill to see a waterfall!".
え~っ!本気~?
Seriously?
つづく   to be continued...
lavenders and summer blooms
やっと、ラベンダーの剪定をしました
もうちょっとブルーな時に切っていたらドライにするのに綺麗だったでしょうね
でも、香りは満開時に負けない程強いです しばらく楽しめそう
I cutback my lavenders today.
It would have been prettier for drying if I had cut them earlier when they are still blue.
But, they still smell fantastic and we can enjoy the aroma for a while inside.
Eryngium planum
エリンジュームもそろそろ終わりです
こちらもドライにしたら可愛いですね
わたしはルリタマと性が合わないみたいで(大好きなのに)どうしても育ってくれませんが
エリンジュームは大丈夫 コボレ種で少しずつ増えてくれています
The Sea holly (Eryngium) is about done, too.
I don't know why, but I can not grow globe thistle (Echinops) which I love.
I have been lucky with Sea holly though, spreading moderately with seeds.
バトンタッチで開花した子達;
Passing the baton to more lovelies;
Aster x frikartii 'Mönch'
 Scutellaria baicalensis   コガネバナ
mallow, name unknown
Agastache rupestris  Sunset hyssop
Allium tuberosum Garlic chives  ニラ
Rudbeckia fulgida ‘Goldsturm’
Caryopteris x clandonensis 'Worcester gold'
最後のカリオプテリスですがこれとよく似たやはり金葉の新しい品種があり
息子と同じ名前なんですよ
見たらやっぱり買うだろうな~ お母さんだからな~ ^^
There is newer bluebeard (Cryopteriscultivar available also with the golden leaves just like my 'Worcester gold', but this newer one and our son share the same name.
I'm pretty sure that I will buy it if I see it...such a Mom. ^^
今週、彼の住む山村までデイジー(キャンパー)を連れて出向いてきます
野生のキノコと木の実採りに連れて行ってくれるそうです、山にです
野生のねぇ…ロッキー山脈にです
このスプレー持って行きます!
We are visiting him this week with Daisy (our camper).
He is going to take us to hunt mushrooms and berries in the mountain.
Wild mushrooms and berries... in the Rocky mountains...
I'm taking this spray!
そのお話は帰ってから
もし…生きて帰ったらですが (笑
I'll tell you all about it when I get back...if I come back alive!
garlic and Russian sage
7月31日ガーリック収穫
Garlic was harvested on July 31st.
通常、風通しの良い涼しい場所に吊り下げて保存しますが
コロラドのような乾燥地帯ではすぐ干からびてしまうのでガレージに2~3日放置後
 大きなクローブを20かけほど選択 これらは来年用に植え込みます
 ペスト / タペナーデ・ソースもどきを作り
 一個だけガーリック・ジャーに保存
 残りはすぐ皮をむいて冷凍
Normally, you would hang garlic in the cool well ventilated area to cure,
but they dry too fast here in Colorado.
I leave them in the garage for only 2~3 days and proceed to;
  Choose 20 or so plump cloves to plant for next year.
  Make pesto/tapenade sauce.
  Store one bulb in the garlic jar.
  Peel and freeze the rest.
ガーリックは例年掘りあげるタイミングを迷ってしまいます
I'm never sure when to harvest my garlic.
Perovskia atriplicifolia Russian sage
ロシアンセージが満開です
そうだ,
ちょうど今満開の子たちをガーリック収穫のシグナルにすればいいですね
I looked at the Russian sage in full bloom and realized
that I can use the blooms in the garden as signals for my harvest.
Sidalcea 'Party Girl' mallow
dwarf  Platycodon grandiflorus
Allium senescens
可愛らしいシグナル達が八月の庭を飾ります
Delightful signals decorating my August garden.  Delightful indeed.
