recipes

Grandma's Rum Cake- our favorite recipe!

I have accumulated a fair amount of recipes over the years.
Naturally, I have the English recipes and their Japanese counterparts.
And that's a lot!

It was becoming more difficult every year to find what I needed,
especially with more and more recipes found online resulting in a large paper stack.

Included in the MS Office 2010, is a program called OneNote
and I have decided to organize my recipes using this program.

Japanese recipe notebook

English recipe notebook

You may already know this, but OneNote works like your binder notebook.
It allows users to type notes, insert photos, embed videos, paste in Web links,
search it all, organize it all
and has an option to share your selected notebook online if you so chose.
Meaning, I can open it with my laptop in the kitchen
and our son can look into his mom's recipe box from across the state.^^

For now, I just need to spend time sifting through the stack of paper
looking for the recipe's website. From there, copy, paste, and label.

In the mean while, I hope I can find the chocolate cake recipe
I've been looking for in time for the Valentine's day.

I very much regret that I didn't start this sooner.
How do you organize your recipes?

ETA; I have to evaluate my garden record-keeping method as well
-too much information to remember.

Maybe here or here.

My collection is getting out of control. Thanks for showing this idea!

  2. Hi Lisa♪
I'm happy to hear that you found it helpful.
Cook books are nice but I'm getting more and more recipes online and they are hard to organize, aren't they?

  4. Katananke

  5. I really need to organize my recipes (right now, they are jammed into a 3-ring binder and getting harder to retrieve by the day), so I'm interested in how this turns out for you!

As far as garden record-keeping, I have just begun using PlantJotter.

  6. Hi Kym♪
My son loves to cook and has been interested in my recipe collection.
I thought I'll give this a try and was delighted to find out that his notebook will be automatically updated every time I enter something (after I email him the link and we make the connection). How cool is that!

I am very interested in PlantJotter.
    I remember you mentioning it.
