Crested Butte August Trip / mushroom hunt

Crested Butte, Colorado

As the Summer break rush is nearing its end in the small mountain village where our working student son lives, he was finally able to take two days off.
My husband and I drove up there with our dog, planning to camp and spend some time with him.

The valley of Crested Butte welcomed us with a different color from early July.

Our main planned activity was to go hunt mushrooms.
I started the four wheeling climb with a little anxiety and excitement, but I was impressed with his knowledge when we were at the destination.
Although I was winded with the high altitude hiking (over 9000 ft) we were able to have a relaxed time together.

You can eat this, this and this.
And they are delicious!

This one is eatable, but it's spongy.
Too bad, it's huge!

Let's leave the unfamiliar ones alone.

Not this one.

Definitely not this one!

Wait for me~!   pant, pant, pant

We collected a backpack full of mushrooms.
They were delicious with a very nice texture when our son sautéed them that night.

We even picked wild strawberries and blueberries on the way back.

We went down to the valley without any encounters with bears,
and even before I can take a breath, our son said
"Let's go hike another hill to see a waterfall!".

Seriously?

つづく   to be continued...

    「( I ) pant pant〜」

  5. So much fun! And to be with your son...it doesn't get any better than that! And I get you on the 9,000 feet - we were there outside of Lander. Pant, pant, pant!

I'm out of breath とか I'm winded と、言います。

  8. Hi Patty♪
It's always a good thing to learn something new and have fun at the same time, isn't it?
Oh, the thin air! I live pretty high, but still felt it.

I looked and Lander sounds like a fun place to visit!
