しばらくご無沙汰してしまいました

もう五月も終わりですね

本来、お庭が賑わう月なのですが

今年は雪、雨、雹、　毎日何らかの形で湿気の多い五月でした

スプリンクラー・システムもオフにしたままです

こんなこと初めて…

Hi, I've been slacking off here...

Usually May is a gardener's delight month here in the foothills of Colorado.

It's been wet.

We've been getting snow, rain or hail, something wet everyday, and almost all-day.

Our sprinkler is still off.

I've never seen May this wet before. 

灰色の空が続き、お日様が顔を出してくれたのは希だったのですが

フロントでは大好きな亜麻が元気に咲いてくれています

25日はメモリアル・デー(戦没将兵追悼記念日)で三連休だったので

Daisy(キャンパー)を引っ張ってお隣のニューメキシコ州までキャンピングに行きました

Well, despite the gray sky and no sunshine, my flax is blooming up front.

We went camping with Daisy (our camper) in northern New Mexico this Memorial day weekend.

コロラド南部ハイウエイ沿では亜麻の群生パッチをあちこちで見る事ができました

緊急外の停車は危険なのでチャーミングな亜麻たちの写真が撮れず、残念

このハイウエイ法定最高速度は75マイル/h (120.7km/h)でした
（州、場所によって異なる）
日本は今どれくらいで走れるのかな？

ところでこの道路サイン、何の意味だか分かりますか？

I saw naturalized flax patches next to I-25 in southern Colorado.

I don't like to stop on the highways unnecessarily, 
but I wish I had a picture to show you how lovely they were.

「ソフト・ショルダー」

これを始めて見た時、反射的に思ったのは

前方、ドライブが難しくなるので肩の力を抜いてリラックスする様にとの警告サイン？

Speaking of highways,

when I saw this sign for the first time when I started to drive in US (in Ohio),

can you guess what I thought it was telling me?

Well, I knew the word "shoulder" only as an anatomical word.

I thought they were telling me to relax my shoulder and prepare for a challenging driving condition, and didn't realize it was a warning for a soft edge along the side of a road that is unsuitable for vehicles to drive on.

I don't recall learning this in school, and never knew the roads had shoulders!

Just a little chit-chat post, -the ground is too saturated to garden!  ;-(

全く違いました　（汗

SHOULDER  (ショルダー）は肩ですよね、つまり道路の肩、道路脇のことです

道路脇が舗装されてなくソフトなので脇にそれ過ぎて溝に落ちないように警告しているのです

この意味、学校で'習った覚えないぞ…

道路に肩があったとはね～

日本でも「路肩」と呼ぶことを教えていただきました
お恥ずかしい、、、いつもこんな調子ですがこれからも宜しくお願いします
