What should I get my mom for Christmas?
This is something I struggle with every year.
Mom suffers from Alzheimer's and she uses a wheelchair.
She still knows who I am, but doesn't recognise her grandson -my son.
Her short term memory is almost nonexistent yet she surprises me with remarkable memories from long ago.
母に何を送ろうか？
例年クリスマスになると悩みます
母はアルツハイマー病に蝕まれ車椅子を使っています
わたしのことはまだ覚えてくれていますが わたしの息子、孫は誰だか分かりません
短期記憶は殆ど失っていますが ずっと昔のことを覚えていたりしてびっくりさせられる時もあります
She doesn't have much space for many clothes, not supposed to have something too valuable either.
I'm afraid to send her any kind of food in fear of her overeating. Or possibly, end up eating spoiled food.
I have been sending her books (something light, usually funny), but I'm not sure if this is a good idea anymore. If you can't remember what was said a page ago, how can you enjoy it?
衣類を入れる場所は限られているし あまり高価なものは持たせる事ができません
食べ物を送ると、一度に食べすぎ、または忘れてしまい腐敗させたりしてそれを食べられるのが心配です
ここ数年 本（軽い面白い本ばかりです）を送っていましたが 本を読むのも苦痛になったかもしれない、と感じるようになりました
1頁前のことを覚えていなかったら読んでも面白く無いかも…
Then, ....I thought "Movies!"
She lives in this wonderful assisted care facility in Japan, and they have a movie day every month.
I sent them DVD movies.
It was fun selecting them on the Japanese Amazon site remembering what she used to like watching
-felt just a little sentimental...
They are all American movies dubbed with Japanese.
I think she'll enjoy them, and hopefully her friends will too.
で、思いついたのが「映画」！
母はこちらにお世話になっていますが 毎月 大スクリーンで映画上映会を主催してあります
その際 使っていただくようにDVD映画を送りました
アマゾンのサイトで母が昔好きだった映画を思い返して選ぶのは楽しかったです
でも少しだけホロリ…
