Lots of Love

My mother-in-law is a Saint.
She is a woman of few words.  And when she speaks, it's alway something complementary. 
I've never seen her complaining about anything.

わたしの義母は聖人のような優しい人です
口数が少なく、物言っても好意的なことだけ
義母から愚痴を聞いた事がありません

My husband had grown up listening to her "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything" motto.
And this principle is something he still religiously adheres to this day.
I admire this quality about him.

「優しい事が言えなかったら何も言うな」のモットーで育てられた夫は
今でもその賢明な教訓を忘れていません　手本にしなくては、と思います

I've received a thank you note from my mother-in-law a little while ago.
Since this is highly personal, I wondered if I should make it public or not.
But, this is such a lovely note that I wanted to share it with you.
In this note, she is referring to a humble handmade jewelry set I sent to her for Mother's day.
The larger light blue stones are aquamarines which are her birthstones. 

先日、義母からサンキュー・カードが送られてきました
プライベートな事なので掲載するのを戸惑ったのですが
優しさ溢れるカードだったのでシェアさせてくださいね
母の日に贈ったハンドメイドのジュエリー・セットのことが書いてあります
大きめの水色の石はアクアマリン、義母の誕生石です

I am a lucky daughter-in-law.

A friend of mine has once told me that her x-mother-in-law used to come in to their house and immediately start mopping the floor -everytime.  I also know a person who had received a toilet brush on Christmas from her you know who.
...

I can't think of anything nice to say about that, so, I say nothing.

ホワイト・マザーズ・デイとなりました

今朝、おそる　おそる　ブラインドを開けて覗く...

ひっ！

We had a white Mother's Day.

I was afraid to open the blinds this morning.

Let's take a little peek...

深夜　重たい雪が20cm程降りましたが、あっという間に溶けました

8 inches of very heavy snow came down fast over night, and melted as fast!

夫がオートミール・クランベリー・クッキーをたくさん焼いてくれました

（これはあんまり甘すぎず美味しいよ！　美味しかったから食べ過ぎたけど...^ ^）


いつも一日遅れですが、皆さん楽しい母の日を過ごされましたように


And my husband baked me a huge batch of oatmeal cranberry cookies.
They came out excellent and we ate way too many.

So...it was all good.  ^ ^

旅行中に何かもらって来てしまい　帰宅直後寝込んでしまいました
空港で、それと飛行中にマスクをしなかったことを後悔…

一ヵ月後、やっと元気になって息子からリクエストされたピーカン・パイを焼くことができました
わたしはパンプキン・パイのほうが好きかな

どちらもアメリカのレシピですがお砂糖をかなり減らして作ります


それにしても気管支系の病気はしつこいですね～

Christmas spirit

ドアを開けると　チャーミングなお隣さんが　「Merry Christmas!」
たくさんのベイクド・グッズ ＋マイクロ・ビール６パックをいただきました
トナカイのデコレーションが可愛かったのでご紹介しますね

I was greeted by my neighbors when I opened the door.
They brought me lots of Christmas goodies, and I had to show you these reindeer micro-beers!

 
去年作ってお分けしたスパイス・ナッツの評判が良かったので　またたくさん焼いて
今年はツリー型のグラスジャーに入れてみました

I have baked spiced-nuts again this year after great response last year.
I found tree shaped glass jars for them. 

さて、今年の我が家のツリーは　鉢植えの Norfolk pine を飾ってみたのですが、
強い枝ではないので少ししか飾れず　なんだか変なかんじです
ま、いいか・・

Decorating our tree for this year didn't go so well.
I wanted to use our potted Norfolk Pine, but its branches weren't stiff enough for many ornaments.
Oh, well.

オリンピック、あっという間に終わりましたね

五輪舞台で全力を尽くすオリンピアン達には感銘を受けました

日本からの応援は時間的に大変でしたね～、お疲れさまでした

オリンピアンの皆さん、おめでとう、ありがとう！

It was such a treat to witness Olympians giving everything they have for their countries.

Congratulations to all Olympians!

 こぼれ話ですが、コロラドは1976年冬季オリンピックの開催予定地だったのに

住民投票の結果、開催費用、環境汚染、乱開発などの理由から 

 開催を返上したという歴史があります

大自然を愛するしたコロラド人

 うんうん、なんとなく分かります

 Did you know that Colorado stunned the world by turning down Olympics?

Coloradans are were environmentally-conscious people -I'm not surprised.

30度C近い、異常に暑い日がしばらく続きました

今夜、嵐通過予報、今朝は少し涼しくなったので

あれこれ、やりかけの作業を済ましてしまおうと

早朝から七時間、休み無しで庭仕事 　    ふう～

愚痴ではありませんよ、嬉しい悲鳴？！

It has been unseasonably warm April.

With strong storms predicted tonight, it was cooler this morning.

I wanted to finish up a few chores that I had started in the garden, and ended up spending seven straight hours gardening.  Phew!  
I'm not complaining, mind you. Happily exhausted.

綺麗に咲いてくれた白いライラックの小枝で　小さなアレンジメントを拵えて

先月越してこられたお隣さんに　ウェルカム・ギフトです　と差し上げたら

何度も、何度もありがとう と・・・

The white lilac was beautiful this morning.

I made a small lilac arrangement for my new next door neighbors as a welcome gift.

She thanked me again and again...

笑顔が太陽みたいな可愛い奥さん、

お花好きみたいで、よかった 

よかった 

A lovely lady with a nice smile like sunshine.

I'm glad she likes flowers.
